أستاذ سياسات الشرق الأوسط ورئيس قسم دراسات الخليج العربي في جامعة إكستر ,

حيث كان بين 2010-2015 مدير معهد الدراسات العربية والإسلامية (IAIS)

زميل مشارك في المعهد الملكي للخدمات المتحدة (روسيا).

وهو زميل الجمعية الملكية للفنون (FRSA)، وزميل الجمعية الملكية الجغرافية (FRGS)، وانتخب زميلا للأكاديمية للعلوم الاجتماعية (FAcSS).

محلل ومستشار في سياسات الشرق الأوسط على مدى العقد الماضي، مع التركيز بصورة خاصة على السياسة والاقتصاد السياسي للعراق، والمناطق الكردية في الشرق الأوسط ،

عاش وعمل في مرحلة ما قبل تغيير النظام في العراق لفترة طويلة ، بين عامي 1996 و 2001، ولديه خبرة كبيرة في العمل الميداني في مجموعة من الدول في الشرق الأوسط والعالم الإسلامي، بما في ذلك العراق (قبل وبعد تغيير النظام)، وسوريا، والمغرب، ودول الخليج، وأفغانستان.

وهو أيضا زميل مشارك أول في المعهد الملكي للخدمات المتحدة (RUSI)،

وزميل العالمية (2015-17) من مركز وودرو ويلسون في واشنطن العاصمة، وزميل مركز جنيف للسياسات الأمنية،

وهو أستاذ زائر في جامعة نورث ويست، وشيان- الصين، وهو أستاذ زائر في جامعة سوران و جامعة SABIS، اربيل (كردستان العراق)،

وزميل فخري في جامعة ولاية بنسلفانيا البرنامج على الصراع العرقي.

بين عامي 2002 و 2012، وكان زميل مشارك في برنامج الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا في تشاتام هاوس.
