درست التاريخ الإسلامي والعصور العربية والفارسية في العصور الوسطى في جامعة هامبورغ وجامعة إنديانا.
حصلت أطروحتها على الموسوعات الفارسية والعربية على جائزة أطروحة عام 2005 لمؤسسة الدراسات الإيرانية.
كانت زميلة في مشروع المخطوطات العربية لمكتبة تشستر بيتي في دبلن ،
وباحثة في مكتب بورك في معهد الاتحاد اللاهوتي في مدينة نيويورك ،
وقد درّست في جامعة إنديانا وجامعة هامبورغ.
يستكشف بحثها الحالي تاريخ الكتاب الإسلامي ، ضمن المنظور الأوسع للتاريخ الثقافي لنقل المعرفة بين الشرق الأدنى وأوروبا وأمريكا الشمالية.
في عام 2005 ، قامت بتنظيم معرض قرآني في مكتبة بورك ، وهي نسخة رقمية منقحة متوفرة على موقع مكتبات جامعة كولومبيا.
في عام 2011 ، بدأت في ندوة جامعة كولومبيا الجديدة حول الدين والكتابة ، والتي شاركت في ترأسها مع الدكتور ماهناز معظمي.
منذ عام 2012 ، تقوم بكتابة مدونة بحث في مكتبات جامعة كولومبيا حول الكتب الإسلامية. بمناسبة الذكرى 150 لميلاد A. V. Williams Jackson في عام 2012 ، نظمت معرضًا للكتب الشرقية في مكتبة الكتاب والمخطوطات النادرة ونظمت في عام 2013 مؤتمرا حول تاريخ الدراسات الإسلامية في جامعة كولومبيا.
