مؤرخ للعلوم مع التركيز على المؤسسات والرياضيات ورسم الخرائط في المجتمعات الإسلامية حتى عام 1700 واللقاءات بين الثقافات في منطقة البحر الأبيض المتوسط وغرب آسيا منذ القرن الثامن.
وتعمل على تفسير جديد لكتاب ميزان الحكمة للعالم الفيزيائي عبد الرحمن الخازني.
درست الرياضيات في جامعة دريسدن التقنية (1969-1973) ، وتاريخ الرياضيات والعلوم في جامعة كارل ماركس لايبزيغ (1973-1976) ،
وتاريخ الشرق الأدنى والعربية في جامعة مارتن لوثر هاله فيتنبرغ (1978-1982) .
ونالت الدكتوراه في تاريخ البرمجة الخطية وكانت أطروحتها الثانية حول نظرية الأعداد باللغتين العربية والفارسية مؤلفة من 800 إلى 1250 (1977؛ 1989).
وقد نشرت على نطاق واسع حول مواضيع مختلفة في تاريخ الرياضيات ، ورسم الخرائط ، والرعاية ، والتعليم العالي ، والعلوم والفنون ، واللقاءات بين الثقافات ، والتاريخ.
