عضو هيئة التدريس في جامعة كاليفورنيا ، ديفيس ، تاريخ الفن ،
يتناول بحثها التاريخ العمراني والمعماري في الشرق الأوسط والجنس والفضاء ، بالإضافة إلى النظرية النقدية للحفظ المعماري ، تاريخ المتاحف وممارسات المعارض ، وسياسات التراث اليوم.
من مواليد بيروت ، درست في كلية بيروت الجامعية (الجامعة اللبنانية الأمريكية الآن) وجامعة كاليفورنيا في لوس أنجلوس حيث حصلت على درجة الدكتوراه في تاريخ الفن ،
متخصصة في الفن والهندسة المعمارية الإسلامية.
قبل التحاقها بالكلية الجامعية في جامعة كاليفورنيا ، قامت بالتدريس في جامعة رايس ومعهد ماساتشوستس للتكنولوجيا ، حيث كانت أستاذة تطوير الآغا خان في الفترة 2001-2005.
حصل كتابها "صورة مدينة عثمانية: العمارة الإمبراطورية والخبرة الحضرية في حلب في القرنين السادس عشر والسابع عشر" (2004) على جائزة سبيرو كوستوف للكتاب من جمعية المؤرخين المعماريين.
كما حصلت على جائزة أفضل مقال من جمعية الدراسات السورية في عام 2007
وجائزة عمر لطفي بركان من جمعية الدراسات العثمانية والتركية.
تقوم حاليا بكتابة كتاب عن العنف الجماعي والتراث الثقافي في الشرق الأوسط الحديث.
